Our Veterinary Practice
New Stream Veterinary Services exists to revive an older style of veterinary medicine where the vet's presence is felt in the home and on the farm.

We want to be the first affordable touch point of veterinary care for our patients, providing consistency, attentiveness, urgent care, and counsel as far as we are able.

About
Dr. John Hein Nystrom
At 16 years old, Dr. John realized he wanted to become a veterinarian after falling in love with the vision of life as a rural vet in James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small books. He received his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Cornell University in upstate New York. While there he discovered he had a keen interest in helping people without scientific or medical backgrounds access valuable information from that world, especially when it came to their animals’ health and production. He had always been interested in working with large animals and specialized in production animal medicine in vet school. After graduating, he completed an internship in ambulatory medicine with his professors at Cornell, establishing himself as an ambulatory vet practicing on cattle, horses, sheep, goats, and other large animals. He moved to Medical Lake at the end of 2023 and practiced under Dr. Jill Swannack until deciding to start his own ambulatory practice in June 2025. He is passionate about unhurried, relational medicine and providing essential veterinary services to those without access.
